Current music:Arcade Fire - "No Cars Go" "Intervention"

Good CD!
Pat, your mix CD was too intense. I had to peel and scrape the remains of my soul out of my PT Cruiser yesterday afternoon and patch it together again in time for class last night. All the way home I had to listen to Fort Wayne's hottest hip-hop and R&B station just to be sure I could sleep last night and breathe today. Now I'm listening to some relaxing Arcade Fire and '80s speed metal to calm my nerves. I'm not being facetious. Seriously, you don't live in the world of those songs every day, do you?

LOL, ummmm ... er ... could it be that's what's messing up my life?

Yes, this is my state of "happy" existence :-)

Seriously, was it that intense?

Just funnin' ... mostly. Great stuff! I'm amazed at the endless array of bands out there. I download maybe a hundred or more mp3s a month, but you sprung some new ones on me.

Do you know, for instance, http://elbo.ws/tracks

(Do you have any Arcade Fire? I'd imagine you'd like them, too.)

Yeah, that's how I felt when you sent that list of bands and I knew none. Thanks for the link here; I'll check it out. And no, I don't have Arcade Fire. Every time they come on the radio, I remind myself to look into more by them, and then ...

You download 100 songs a month! I have to start doing that more. It's the more economical way to experiment, easier to take the risk than buying the whole CD. Then, once you notice one group is piling up, ahh, it must be love.

Okay, so you're getting 3 CDs - Tegan & Sara, Arcade Fire w/ some other stuff, and that mix I sent you the list of yesterday.

Though it might all be just a bit "happy" for you.

:)

(Teasing, honest!)

The process you describe was especially true of Tegan and Sara. Seriously, fellow 30-something he-man CDM and I are giddy, squealing fans of these petite little Canadian punkettes. They used to have almost half their catalog as free mp3s on their site -- those freebies sold me enough to buy the same songs on CD. Then they got popular enough for their last album to go major label. But not everyone's good enough to build a fanbase that way.

I do download a crapload of free, legal songs from all sorts of sources. It keeps me entertained. And it keeps me from doing all sorts of important things. (Actually not, it's a few clicks and then I'll do important things while I wait... and wait, as I'm still a dial-up doofus. I'm not sure just how nuts I'd go with it if I had the wireless we'll probably sign up for later this summer.)

lol, you know what's weird? I don't notice it. I was listening to earlier Radiohead once and my daughter said this is all sad. When I listen to Katatonia, I just hear those sweet guitar notes that feel like a bit of a hug. I'd never thought of it as sad. I like things with yearning, and when people get morose or maudlin, I usually find I'm grinning and thinking it's sort of funny--nothing like a bit of wallowing. But, the yearning--that's the quality I look for.

I think I'll title my next CD comp, Suicide Hotline. :-)

You also seem to be a lyrics person. Lots of good words in those songs, words that took more than five minutes to write!
